Punkfunk
was set up in 1998 as an umbrella company for the various projects,
remixes and collaborations of Nick Woolfson.
He was working extensively with dj Mark Shimmon at the time producing tracks under the names of Shimmon & Woolfson, Sundance, The Mudmen and Fade 2 End. Sundance was a chartbound trance project with 4 top 40 releases on React Records and Inferno Records. Shimmon & Woolfson started out as Nick and Mark's original artist name, releasing acid, nu-energy and hard house tracks including their classics 'Stak The Galli' and 'Amazone' from way back in 1993, on Nick's Jamm Records label before finally signing to React in 1997. By then, their sound had moved on to encompass hard trance and breakbeat. They also recorded for Hooj Choons imprint Shining Path Records under the guise of The Mudmen releasing three ultra dirty tuff house ep's Tuff Trax vol 1-3. Nick moved on in 2000 and paired up with American songwriter Dean Ross, which resulted in a number of successful releases. First off was Flex 'Sweet Thing', a disco house track which was signed to Time Records in Italy and Sony in the UK. This was followed by Plasma 'Do You Believe', a vocal trance track signed to Wonderboy Records. They also wrote 'Return To Ibiza' by Sabotage, a hard house, disco sampled track which was signed to Incentive Records and finally released 'Beautiful' by BigFella, a vocal filtered disco tune with vocals by Noel McCalla, which was released on Dave Pierce's Nulife Records. Another project of Nick's was and still is Sounds From The Ground with Elliot Morgan Jones, which has released various albums in the USA, UK and Europe. Musically down tempo with deep and warm beats, SFTG have been a mainstay of the 'chillout/trip-hop/dub' scene since their first release 'Triangle' in 1994. Nick is now concentrating on various new artist projects and collaborations as well as working with Kiss fm producers on soundbeds and jingles for radio, tv and advertising - see the other sections in this web site for more information. |
